My own experiences with media consumption illustrate wider patterns and trends in audience behavior because if an audience picks up something they find funny, they'll turn it into a trend. For example, there's a podcast I watch that's created by two people who have been on YouTube for a very long time. The podcast is focused on any current internet drama that's going on between people that are also well known on YouTube or any other popular platform. This is marketable to anyone who keeps up with or is somewhat knowledgable on the drama they discuss because it's interesting to see other influencers shed light on the topic. Recently, on the podcast one of the YouTubers said something and it made the other YouTuber start to poke at her about what she said because it was very comical. The viewers of the podcast then picked up on the YouTuber poking at her and made the moment on the podcast into a trend where people recreate it as a scene. This is good in various ways because the trend brings more attention to their podcast and they're also getting recognition for being entertaining personalities. The podcast is also used to talk about serious topics in the social media world. The YouTubers bring attention to a lot of serious things happening in today's world, which also reaches out now to an audience that can relate to the serious topics. Their range of topics is pretty wide and it makes the podcast easier to distribute to different audiences.
