On the left is my original magazine cover and on the right is my revised magazine cover. I used Canva to create both covers. During my revision, I changed all of the fonts and headlines on the cover and decided to use less pink in the font color because I decided it was too much with the model also wearing pink on the cover. I made these changes because I feel like the cover photo is more accentuated instead of hidden behind all of the words.

The continuing development of digital media technology has a large significance on media institutions and audiences. The film industry is always changing in order to find new ways to distribute their media. For example, companies have been introducing online streaming platforms that give the viewer the option to purchase a movie and watch it or download it to their device at home. This has saved companies a copious amount of money because instead of using materials for packaging, then going through the production of creating the media itself, they can send out a file from a computer and release and sell their product to the same amount of people as they would of with a physical release.
This is the same with new cinema releases because distributors don’t need to process film, they just send the production to a computer. This removes the limit on distribution as in the past, film would've been shared and posted around the world. Now, all they need to receive a new release is wifi and a computer. This supports the view that older media, such as DVD’s, are tanking as the push towards new platforms are slowly taking over. This could be debated with the older generation, however the younger generation believes that old media is decreasing as they've found different and more convenient platforms to purchase and view media. I'm writing my article for my magazine readers. The audience that my magazine is directed towards isn't exclusive of any age or gender. My magazine's goal is to be all inclusive and be able to help them with any fashion tips that they're struggling with. What's important to my audience is being comfortable in your own skin. My audience reads my magazine because they feel that my magazine discusses things like body positivity, being comfortable with doing trends on your own terms, and how to style things that match your own unique personality. That's what my magazine readers rely on our issues to discuss. Fashion news that is currently trending is, ironically, today's trends. Trends are forever changing, but my magazine is up to date with them weekly and is keeping my readers in the loop. Some trends being seen today includes, but is not limited to, unique sneakers, Y2K fashion, flared out pants, and layering clothing. With all of these trends out currently, my magazine touches on how to personalize them. I'm going to start by thinking of 10 of the most important tips that I want to include, since that's the article style I chose. With those tips, I can then bounce off of that idea to create explanations behind the tips to elaborate on them.

The 10 tips article is the best choice for my double page spread for the magazine. I chose this specific article because I can use the 10 tips perspective as a way to talk about fashion. My plan is to do 10 tips on how to personalize fashion trends. My magazine focuses on topics like that, so it'll fit it perfectly. The journalist of the example of the 10 tips article sets a tone of understanding and mutualism. The journalist talks about their own personal experiences as well, which is a tactic that's supposed to help the reader feel like others can relate to them, even the person writing the article that they're reading. There's also a tone of suggestion. What I mean by that is the journalist has the tone of being like a mentor to the reader. This is because the journalist is trying to give the reader advice and tips that can be useful to them, so the tone is giving the effect of having more experience in what the journalist is giving the reader tips about. The journalist’s impact is meant to make the reader have a different outlook on what they’re seeking advice about. The journalist is put in a position of authority in a way because someone is reading their magazine for a reason. They’re putting in a sense of trust as a reader that the writer will be able to give them a different point of view on their issue. This is a big responsibility, but most of the time the journalist hits the nail on the head and says just the right thing in their writing that helps the reader in the exact way that they’re looking for. Lastly, the way the journalist communicates their ideas is the most important. The journalist has to relay their message the right way so that it can fit the reader’s understanding and give the reader what they’re looking for. Articles that are giving tips and advice are very knowledgeable in the sense that they know how to get their point across while also saying just the right words to the reader. I integrated technologies, such as software, hardware, and online, in my project by using different websites and computer techniques to put together my magazine. I used the website Canva to put together my magazine and my double page spread. Canva was helpful in the way that it let me use templates and design techniques to put all of the requirements together. Software and a hardware was used when Ms. Fuller taught us how to use a version of Adobe to access InDesign. In the process of those steps, we somewhat downloaded a mock browser that gave us access to the platform. Mostly, I personally used online materials. All of the examples and resources that Ms. Fuller provided, were accessible through websites and links. Overall, the technologies I used and that were provided helped me complete the magazine cover and double page spread. They were very helpful and I learned how to use a lot of tools that were unfamiliar to me before.
My production skills developed throughout this project because I was working with things I've never worked with before. I've never had to make my own magazine, so I used to never pay attention to all of the small details that go into making one. I learned about all of the subtitles and headlines that go on the front and I learned about how to use images and color to enhance the genre of my magazine. I also learned how to talk about things that correlate with the genre I chose. I learned how to assess what's going on in today's world and put my own twist on it. With all of that, I most importantly learned things that will help me with other projects in the future. I learned how to use certain websites and applications that are useful for design that I'm sure could be useful in the future. I learned about physical and digital media and how I would distribute something like a magazine. My production skills have grown a lot throughout the duration of the project and I've learned a lot of useful material.
Dialogue overlap is happening at 3:02 when Mr. Soprano is talking to the psychiatrist as we hear background music as well. This happens to add an element to the scene. Regular dialogue occurs at 1:25 when the psychiatrist addresses Mr. Soprano about him blacking out and having a panic attack. We find out about the conflict with Mr. Soprano during this conversation. At 1:35, there's a debate between Mr. Soprano and the psychiatrist about whether he had a panic attack. Diatribe occurs at 2:16 when Mr. Soprano describes what may have caused the possible panic attack. At 1:25, the psychiatrist performs discourse by telling Mr. Soprano what his family physician told her about his collapse. When Mr.Soprano is in the waiting room at the psychiatrist's office we also hear a lot of silence up until the psychiatrist comes from her office to invite him in. There's also a moment of silence once they're in the psychiatrist's office because Mr. Soprano is in denial about the panic attack he had.
My magazine engages with audiences because it's modern. While my magazine is inclusive of all ages, it also in a way specifically reaches out to younger audiences. It discusses current trends, topics, and issues going on inside and outside of the fashion industry. This includes how to style certain clothing pieces, how to feel comfortable when practicing new trends in your own way, and how to steer clear of conforming to what society wants young people to believe they have to do. Although it may seem like only younger generations deal with this problem, those that are older can also struggle with societal issues, so it can be helpful to them as well. With the help of our fashion tips and day to day advice, anyone can feel secure with themselves and what's going on around them in today's world. The responsibility of my magazine is to make our audience feel comfortable and accepted no matter what their personal situation is. We promote all of these inclusions to connect with our audience.
Our product is distributed as a real media text because we have both paper and digital options. For our readers that prefer to read magazines in their free time and have a physical copy, we sell our magazines at a variety of stores and locations for their convenience. For our global and international readers, we also provide online issues that also come in a variety of languages. We have these options so that we can reach out to a multitude of audiences and bring them all together with my magazine. We do offer subscription plans if the customer wants the latest issue to be mailed to them every month, but the subscriptions aren't necessary because we don't want the monetary value of the magazine to shrink our reach to the public. To promote our magazine even more, we've also expanded our product to local magazine stands in small towns to help our business and theirs. My magazine takes pride in being easy to reach for all of our readers. These ways of distributing the magazine help spread it to our audiences. My magazine uses and challenges conventions by taking modern trends and displaying them to the public, but with a different message. The message my magazine promotes is doing what makes you comfortable and not being afraid to put your own spin on things. Just because trends are made to seem like they can't ever be done differently doesn't mean that that's really the truth. In reality, trends are like molds that can be used as the foundation of something that could be so much bigger. For example, if pointy sunglasses are in style, that doesn't mean you have to buy the same pointy sunglasses that everyone else has. You can buy bright and bold ones or you can match the color you buy to another article of clothing you own to make your own monochromatic look. I feel that social media is the reason for the stigmatism behind trends. My magazine tells its readers to step outside of the box and get creative.
My magazine represents both social groups and issues by being all inclusive and shining light on current issues in the world. When I say current issues in the world, I don't necessarily mean politics or environmental issues, but I mean issues that are happening in every type of social group. These social groups include, but are not limited to, minorities and members of the LGBTQ+ community. I feel that people of those social groups specifically feel excluded from things happening in their modern world, but my magazine challenges that. My magazine will bring awareness to these topics and find a way to flip it into something more positive. There's always controversy about who should be allowed to do what, but we're all human and we all should be able to feel free to express ourselves. My magazine will never glorify anything related to any type of discrimination or unnecessary shame to any type of person for whatever reason. My magazine is made to provide anyone that could use help in trying to find the right way to be themselves and show that person off. |
